Suspicious Person Safety Training
Recently we held a training program in the case of a suspicious person (不審者) entering the school.
First a police officer from Tsurumi Police Station came to the school to talk to the teachers and show a video about what to do in the situation.
Then it was time for the teachers to practice. A teacher from the elementary school acted as a suspicious person. Teachers watched and learned.
The suspicious person walked around the halls and tried to enter the classrooms where the students would be. It was the teacher's role to keep him out of the classroom.
In the classroom, elementary school teachers acted as students and gathered in the middle of the classroom away from the doors. Curtains were closed. Doors were shut and blocked with desks.
Other teachers were making announcements and calling the police.
The suspicious person was guided out of the school to where the police arrived.
Now it is time to reflect and work on making the emergency procedure better. Student safety is a priority.
